Boyfriend of YouTuber killed in Thailand could be charged

The boyfriend of a pregnant British woman crushed to death by a lorry in Thailand has released an emotional video claiming to have spoken to her spirit – and said she is angry because she was not ready to die.

Danny Glass, 29, pleaded: ‘Someone please wake me up from this nightmare.’

Sophie Emma Rose, 41, was killed when the moped she was riding on was hit by an 18-wheel truck outside a 7-Eleven store in Thalang, Phuket.

Mr Glass, 29, from Kent, was driving the moped and suffered only minor injuries. In a graphic description of the tragedy, he disputed the police version of events.

In the video he described her as his ‘twin flame’, and spoke of the heartbreaking moment he had to tell Ms Rose’s five-year-old son that she was dead.

He stated: ‘I miss her so much, is this a dream? Somebody wake me up from this nightmare.

‘She’s meant to be having my baby in three months. She was my twin flame – the person that understood me the most.’

Describing the impact on his girlfriend’s son, Mr Glass said: ‘There’s a lot of people having to go through this pain but the person I feel sorry for the most is her little boy Shaye who’s five years old.

‘I had to explain to him that his mum was dead and that she isn’t coming back.

‘He does understand that she’s dead but it’s also a lot for a five-year-old to understand so it’s going to be a bit of a process for him.’

In a graphic description of his girlfriend’s death, he recounted in the video:

I turn around and I see Sophie laying flat down and a massive articulated lorry has literally run over her head and made her head pop and I still have the blood over my shoes now.

I had little bits of flesh on my bag and on my feet. F***. It’s f***** up. All I keep seeing is that image going through my head.’

In a Facebook post following the tragedy, he revealed that he could be charged over the death crash.

Accompanied by a sad emoji, he wrote: ‘Apparently I have to be charged or the truck driver for Sophie’s death. I’m scared.’

‘I am in total shock as I’ve lost the most precious person I had ever connected with. My brain keeps going into denial.

‘I am distraught. She was also pregnant so I lost my child too.’

In the video he said he spoken with Miss Rose’s spirit, and stated she was angry. He said: ‘I am talking with her spirit and she was very very angry at first at me and angry that she wasn’t here any more, which is understandable because she didn’t want to leave.’

Miss Rose, who was six months pregnant when she died, is originally from Blackpool but moved to Chiang Mai in Thailand with her boyfriend and her five-year-old son Shaye.

She gained fame for her YouTube videos that showed her breastfeeding her son and encouraged women to consider adopting the practice themselves.

Miss Rose even spoke to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning about her cause, saying she wanted to ‘normalise breastfeeding older kids’ and ‘expose it until it becomes part of normal reality’.

Her YouTube channel ‘Sophie’s Joy Breastfeeding Mama’ amassed more than 25 million views.

Another parenting YouTube channel, ‘Sophie’s Joy Family vlog’, which had more than 4,000 subscribers and a million views.

Her last video, posted the day before she died, shows John, Shaye’s father who lives in Bangkok, spending time with them in a hotel pool and at a water park.

In her videos she also promoted her son’s high-raw vegan diet and was a supporter of home-schooling.

Miss Rose was six months pregnant at the time of the accident, according to Lieutenant Colonel Sanit Nookong.

Lt Col Nookong added: ‘They were not married, but they were partners and he was the father of her unborn child.

‘Witnesses said the motorbike was travelling in the left lane northbound and pulled out to drive around a parked car, and was struck by the truck.’

Lt Col Sanit Nukhong said: ‘She was riding on a motorbike with her partner when they changed lanes to avoid a vehicle parked and blocking their path in the motorbike lane of the road. As they did this, the truck hit them from behind.

‘The woman was then run over by the truck and sustained fatal head injuries.’

Mr Glass however branded this ‘misinformation’, and said the accident happened when a car braked suddenly in front of him.

The incident happened just after 12.10pm local time – 6.10am UK time – on Monday.

One witness said: ‘I just saw the end of what happened. A woman had been knocked off by a lorry and her boyfriend was really upset.

It is believed the lorry driver, a 30-year-old local man, handed himself into police after initially fleeing the scene.

Following news of her death, friends paid tribute to the breastfeeding campaigner.

Melissa Weller wrote: ‘RIP Sophie she was a inspiration to many women.’

Rebecca Mulligan said: ‘I am very sorry for your your loss Danny, Sophie was beautiful and an inspiration to many people.’

Bella Valkyria commented: ‘Danny this breaks my heart. I’ve always been in such awe of you and Sophie and the inspiration you both have given the health community.’

Miss Rose had touted the health benefits of breastfeeding children, and said it was a good way to physically let you child know ‘that you are there for them’.

She also argued that breasts had been over-sexualised in modern culture and people should not feel squeamish about them being used for their natural purpose.

However, her health claims were called into question by medical experts, who said that while the milk would not harm older children, it was also unlikely to provide benefits.

‘So this is a video that I thought I’d never be making and I need to make this because I just feel that it’s going to help me process what happened, part of the grieving process.

Sophie, also known as Sophie’s Joy – that was  her YouTube channel –  who’s my girlfriend, that was six months pregnant with my child. Yesterday at 12 in the afternoon we were on a scooter – I’ll explain the story first and then tell you what’s going on with me.

We were on a scooter and we were on quite a big road with multiple lanes and driving straight forward and I want to clarify this because I’ve read there’s loads of newspaper reports and people saying that I went to overtake a parked car.

Mr Glass disputed the police version of the crash, saying he did not attempt to overtake a parked car when it happened

This is complete misinformation. What happened was I was driving straight forward, I didn’t go round a parked car, and literally I went to brake because a car all of a sudden broke in front of me. The bike has wobbled, I tried to stabilise it, I haven’t been able to do so, it’s two people on a scooter, it’s a very difficult thing to do.

The bike has slid to the right side and I’ve obviously gone into fight or flight mode and I’ve been like “Quick get up, we need to get out the road because we’re going to get run over”.

So I go to pick up the bike, I turn around and Sophie – literally I’d say this is where she literally got a full-face bike helmet two days before, it was a really really good one.

I turn around and I see Sophie laying flat down and a massive articulated lorry has literally run over her head and made her head pop and I still have the blood over my shoes now.

I had little bits of flesh on my bag and on my feet. F***. It’s f***** up. All I keep seeing is that image going through my head over and over and over and over and over and it just won’t stop.

I miss her so much, it’s like is this a dream? Somebody wake me up from this nightmare. I can’t believe it’s even happening. She’s meant to be having my baby in three months, she’s my twin flame, the person that understood me the most.

We had our ups and downs, just like everybody did in their relationships, but never had somebody that understood me so much.

She meant the world to me, and I meant the world to her. And it’s not just me. The person that I feel sorry for the most is her little boy, Shaye, who’s five years old. I had to explain to him that his mum’s dead and that she isn’t coming back.

I just have that memory of telling him that and seeing him. He does understand that she’s dead but it is a lot for a five year old to understand, it’s going to be a long process for him, I feel very sorry for him.

I contacted his dad who now lives in Bangkok and he did come last night and he’s now looking after Shaye, he will go back with his dad to Bangkok and be with him. At least he’s got his dad.

I’m so grateful that it wasn’t both of us that died and that Shaye wasn’t with us and that maybe all three of us had died.

It’s a horrific thing and my brain keeps being in denial, that’s one of the first stages of grief, I know this through studying psychology, it’s going to take me quite a while to process through.

Is this actually happening? She’s just disappeared, she’s gone and I can’t do nothing about it. Life goes on, it’s going to be a very intense time for me to emotionally process this. None of my family have ever been out to Thailand in the year-and-a-half we’ve been here but my mum is literally on a flight which will be here at 6pm which I’m really grateful for because I really need her.

She didn’t deserve this. And yeah from this week from two different people I am getting professional help, people that are trained in psychology. They will help me through this and I just need so much support from everyone, from you lot from anyone that knows me and knows her.

I’d ask anyone that knows someone that knew her to inform her because I’m not able to contact everyone. It would have been nice to have access to her Facebook and YouTube but I don’t because her laptop and her phone both got run over as well.

What I would say is at least it was a quick death, at least it was not a slow painful death and at least she didn’t just get massively injured like losing her arms and her legs and losing the baby while still being alive because that would be absolute torture and she’d be wanting to die.

What I will say is I’m the type of person that has existentialist abilities and very good intuitive abilities and other different things that I would call metaphysical abilities so yeah I am talking with her spirit.

She was very very angry at first with me and angry that she wasn’t here anymore which is understandable because she didn’t want to leave then. But yeah she was angry for a while and now she’s started to calm down a few hours after and started communicating with me yesterday.

She was telling me to look after myself and not to blame myself and love myself and she was just being very compassionate and empathic and I’m just communicating with her and asking her questions. It’s good that she is still there with me in spirit and I can connect with her fully and understand what’s gone on in more detail and more reasons and I can sense her around me permanently.

I was on a scooter then and she was literally like hugging me from behind and stroking my hair, so yeah I look forward to my mum coming here and I’ve got to go to a police station today and the British Embassy is helping me as well.

I’ve just got to take one moment at a time and I need to work out what’s going to happen with her, what to do with all her stuff, organise all things to do with her and stuff.

I’ll keep you updated and I will be making more videos on the subject, like I said it’s just a part of the process for me moving through this emotionally intense time.

I thank you for watching this, I’m not going to tell you to like the video because that’s just wrong but please share this with anyone you think wants to hear this. If you want to hear more information then listen in in the future, please be a subscriber and please send any questions my way and I’ll try and get back to you if I can, I’ll do my best.

I just need to stay strong and carry on with my life and just look after myself like I always have done.

My heart goes out to Sophie. Thanks for watching and I’ll speak to you soon.’
